More about us:

The Gilbertine Academy is an accredited independent school, grades one through twelve, and is an apostolate of the Companions of St. Gilbert of Sempringham, and of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. We are administered by the Gilbertine Institute which includes WISDOM Homeschooling, The Gilbertine Academy, Villa Spiritus, and the Holy House of Our Lady & St. Benedict.
Founded in 2018 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Calgary, with guidance from the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist, our school is under the authority of the Rev’d Robert-Charles Bengry GSmp, Magister of the Companions of St. Gilbert and Pastor of St. John the Evangelist, and the Rev’d Keneth Noster, Head of School of the Gilbertine Institute. Because of the role of the clergy, and the prayers of our little Gilbertine Community, our school has an intentional monastic rhythm and influence. Gilbertine spirituality embraces orderliness, industriousness, and balance, with an aim of personal holiness oriented towards the care of the poor in spirit. Students absorb these things through prayer, study and regular interaction with the clergy, and faculty — all of whom are believing and practicing Catholics who take an Oath of Fidelity at the beginning of each school year.
The wholesome environment of The Gilbertine Academy at St. John’s allows each child to mature academically, spiritually, socially and emotionally, as strong, resilient and engaged Catholics equipped for sainthood.

“Education is integral to the mission of the Church to proclaim the Good News. First and foremost every Catholic educational institution is a place to encounter the living God who in Jesus Christ reveals his transforming love and truth. This relationship elicits a desire to grow in the knowledge and understanding of Christ and his teaching. In this way those who meet him are drawn by the very power of the Gospel to lead a new life characterised by all that is beautiful, good, and true; a life of Christian witness nurtured and strengthened within the community of our Lord’s disciples, the Church.”
— Pope Benedict XVI, Address to Catholic Educators, 2008
